U.S. scientists have taken a new and huge step towards creating artificial life. Magazine Science announced that it has developed a cell controlled by a synthetic genome.
Craig Venter (father of the human genome) has been the architect of this historic find, which is a big step toward creating a synthetic life form whose genetic material comes only 4 cans of chemicals.
Researchers hope to create cells and to better study the biological machinery and create bacteria, designed to solve environmental and energy problems.
This discovery opens the door to the manufacture of single-celled organisms that work in the way their makers want. The researchers, after 15 years of work have been made in the laboratory the entire DNA of the bacterium Mycoplasma mycoides and put it in another cell of another species of bacteria.
