In 2010 consultations in the catalogs CSIC Library Network increased again, although this year the increase was a modest 5.4% compared to 2009 data. In fact, as seen in the table, the number of searches in the Web OPAC declined somewhat, but this decrease was offset by a slight increase of Z39.50 queries to the server and, above all, significant growth XML server application, due in large part to the 134,000 new inquiries from The Buscón , the metasearch of the NBS.

catalogs by geographic area. The percentages are not considered searches of unknown origin
Among foreign users only Europe and Latin America have significant presence, and it is interesting to note that in both cases a few sources are responsible for a significant portion consultations. finder ColCat University Aveiro (Portugal) from the 72% of European searches, taking control of this University (ua.pt), fifth in the global ranking by number of domains consultations (see table). In Latin America, the concentration is not as exaggerated, but 28% of visits from com.mx domain and 25% of the UNAM (Mexico), these two domains occupy positions 12 and 14 ranking. Excluding the CSIC, 69% of visits come from institutions, especially universities, and the remaining 31% of companies or commercial Internet providers. Of the latter, Telefónica captures half, and the dominance of this company (rima-tde.net) ranks third in the ranking.

The ten domains with the highest number of visits to the catalogs
data on the use of the catalogs by the CSIC reveal the enormous weight of the Humanities and social sciences institutes in the use of catalogs (see table). The 9 centers in this area carry 57% of consultations, while 66 centers of Science and Technology are responsible for only 29% of the searches (the rest belongs to Information and Documentation). The mean number of visits per site in the Humanities (45 907) is 15 times that of Science and Technology (3058). The Center for Humanities and Social Sciences by itself accounts for 40% of all queries from the CSIC.

Consultations to catalogs and the SFX linking system by area
CSIC
is interesting to contrast the use of catalogs, which contain mainly, but not limited to, information on the print collection, using the shuttle electronic journals CSIC SFX, which can be an indicator of the index use of electronic resources (see table). The Science and Technology centers account for 96% of the accesses SFX, compared to 4.3% of the humanities and social sciences. A revealing fact is that in the Humanities institutes made 18 queries to the catalog for each access SFX, while in Science and Technology for each search in the catalog are hits SFX 2.5, the patterns of use can not be more different.
